About the Gulfstream G650

The G650 flies further and faster than anything else in its class, which is exactly the specification a government transporting officials across a hemisphere wants. Italy, Bahrain, Israel and several Gulf states operate them for head-of-state and ministerial travel.

It is also finding special mission work. Israel has developed signals intelligence and airborne early warning versions on the airframe, and the United States has ordered it for a future electronic attack and intelligence role.

Traffic here is sparse but geographically wide, and almost always a government rather than a military aircraft.

How to recognise it

  • A very large business jet with a long, straight-sided fuselage and oval windows.
  • Two rear-mounted engines, a swept T-tail and winglets.
  • Longer and taller than a G550, and routinely cruising above 45,000 feet.

Common questions

+ How is the G650 different from the C-37?

The C-37 is based on the older Gulfstream V and G550. The G650 is a newer, larger aircraft with more range and a faster cruise, and it carries a separate ADS-B designator.

+ Is the G650 used for anything other than transport?

Increasingly, yes. Israel has developed intelligence and early warning versions, and the United States has selected the airframe for future electronic warfare and intelligence aircraft.

+ Who operates it in government service?

Italy, Bahrain, Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and others, mostly for senior government travel.
